It is important to set aside a 40 day recovery period to give yourself proper time to heal before rushing back into regular life. Remember your body just went through a hugely taxing process which culminated with a marathon like experience: birth. Be gentle to yourself. This is not the time to be a martyr, to have it all together, or to be superwoman.
Your job is to:
Bond with baby
Sleep and rest.
Stay warm and calm.
That is it. Notice errands, entertaining, housework, or throwing parties is not included.
Honestly, you should not have to do any of those things in an ideal environment. Since most of us have much less than the ideal try to get as close to it as you can, even if that means letting some things go or saying no when you would ordinarily say yes.
Also, avoid leaving your house. Allow others to do for you. Have others visit you. During visits, if someone asks to help, let them. Remember the Art of Receiving from the third trimester, use it now too.
